Tripadvisor released its annual Travelers Choice Awards, a list of the top destinations for 2022, with several Greek destinations included in high spots in different categories. The beautiful island of Crete ranked 2nd in the list of the most popular destinations in Europe, while in the corresponding world list, the largest island of our country “landed” in 5th place.
The first place was taken by Dubai, a literally simple fishing village of the 20th century, which became a hot spot of luxury tourism in the 21st century.

Tripadvisor’s list is based on ratings submitted by travelers to the popular service. The criteria for highlighting the specific destinations each year are the quality and the number of reviews, that have been uploaded for each destination separately
in the period from November 1, 2020, to October 31, 2021.

The 10 most popular destinations in the world for 2022 according to Tripadvisor are the following:

1. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
2. London, United Kingdom
3. Cancun, Mexico
4. Bali, Indonesia
5. Crete, Greece
6. Rome, Italy
7. Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
8. Istanbul, Turkey
9. Paris, France
10. Hurghada, Egypt

In the meantime, Tripadvisor has published a list of destinations, that are in the so-called “trends” for this year. At the top of this list is Mallorca, Spain. At the same time, two Greek destinations are among the top ten. Rhodes ranked third in the world and Santorini hit tenth place. The list in detail:

4. Tulum, Mexico
5. Dubrovnik, Croatia
6. Ibiza, Spain
7. Natal, Brazil
8. Arusha, Tanzania

Tripadvisor also singled out the best destinations for specific categories of visitors:

For food lovers: Rome, Italy.
For nature lovers: Arenal Volcanic National Park, Costa Rica.
For skiers: Zermatt, Switzerland.
For city lovers: Dubai, UAE (Athens 24th).
For those seeking the sun: Cancun, Mexico (Crete 4th, Rhodes 11th, Santorini 14th).

Athens and Corfu were included in the list of European destinations.
More specifically, the Greek capital ranked 14th in the preferences of tourists planning to travel to Europe in 2022, while Corfu was in 16th place.
London took top honours for this year, in the European best destinations list, while also ranking second in the world, losing the top spot from Dubai.
In general, Europe is set to have a strong year in tourism for 2022, as Rome, Paris, and Barcelona are in third, fifth, and sixth place, respectively.
